John Philip Sousa & the Cherokee

There is a lot of interest in the Cherokee in East Tennessee since we are so close to North Carolina. The Smithsonian's blog posted an item relating to famed march composer John Philip Sousa and his transcription of a couple of Cherokee songs. You'll find images of the compositions as well as an audio clip so you can listen to one of the songs being chanted.  If you are interested in reading the article in which the notations were first published, you will find that available on JSTOR via the library's database pages.
