Jessica Frazier Exhibit

In cooperation with the Art Department, the Library is pleased to announce the first of what we hope will become a regular attraction – student exhibits at the library! This month’s featured artist is Jessica Frazier, a senior photography major from Jefferson City. She is a fine art photographer who has had work shown in exhibitions and published in literary magazines. Jessica says that her “photographs are a result of the things I find during my wandering about different cities and things I may stumble upon or drive by. I find beauty and intrigue in nature and trash.”

We invite you to come by the library and view a selection of her photographs located on the main floor throughout the month of April. All of her work is for sale.

Appalachian Programs at UT

University of Tennessee
Special Collections Library presents
Appalachian Removals and Relocations
An exhibit and lecture series exploring the diversity, culture and identity of Appalachia and its inhabitants
free & open to the public

Appalachia is a region of great transformations and intersections. Humans have fought over its natural resources, land, and legacy for centuries. Removals and relocations across this vast territory resulted in regional diversity, cultural isolation, and conflicting identities. As a result, the image of Appalachia and its inhabitants is ever-changing. As part of the University of Tennessee's Appalachian Celebration, the Special Collections Library is hosting a lecture series and exhibit entitled “Appalachian Removals and Relocations," which will examine the diversity, culture and identity of Appalachia and its inhabitants.

March 20: “Cherokee Removal: A National and Regional Perspective,” presented by John Finger, UT emeritus professor of history.

March 27: “Nineteenth Century Come-Heres: Planting Intentional Communities in the Rocky Soil of Tennessee,” presented by Benita Howell, UT emeritus professor of anthropology.

April 10: “Goodbye to the Old Home Place: Removals by the National Park Service and the Tennessee Valley Authority,” presented by Bruce Wheeler, UT emeritus professor of history.

Each event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. & lecture at 6 p.m. in the Delivery Hall of the historic James D. Hoskins Library. For more information visit http://www.lib.utk.edu/spcoll/lecture/ or call (865) 974-4480.

Join us for a preview Monday, March 19! The Special Collections Library will have a reception for their exhibit opening, “Appalachian Removals and Relocations” at 3:30 p.m. This exhibit explores the theme of Appalachian removals and relocations, using original material held by the Special Collections Library. At 7 p.m., the film The Trail of Tears, a Cherokee Legacy will be held in the Lindsay Young Auditorium of Hodges Library.
